Leading Lights is an exciting new not-for-profit social enterprise that provides completely free tuition, mentoring, advocacy and family support for young people suffering in silence. These might be young carers or young people with mental health difficulties who are unable to access other services to meet their complex social needs. We fund this work by providing specialist, tailored one-to-one tuition to families and clients who can afford to pay and re-investing the money, thereby also helping to reduce the pressure on public services and transform outcomes across a diverse range of backgrounds.
We are looking for outstandingly lovely tutors, teachers, and mentors in London and Bristol from Primary through to GCSE and A level in a range of subjects to work across client groups. We are particularly looking for people who have experience of SEN, and working with children and young people who might be unconfident and who need a professional friend, mentor, and role model as well as fantastic and inspiring academic input to shape their futures and ambitions. We are now looking to recruit for the new academic year in September and interviews will take place over the summer.

Who we are seeking: This is a part-time self-employed role with competitive sessional pay varying on experience, and the individual placement. Some of our team are full-time professional tutors, others are also working full or part-time in schools. Our placements can fit around other commitments, although we do ask that you commit to your students for at least the academic year once you have been placed. They really need you to be reliable for them!
Ideally, you will have a high-quality degree from a great university with fantastic subject knowledge; more than two years teaching experience; a track record for showing fantastic progress; and a passion for working one-to-one with children and inspiring them.
Importantly, you will share our key values: Imagination, love, a desire to nurture, and you will be joyful, energised, eloquent, brave and empathetic.
Most of our team possess qualified teacher status, but we will also love applications from those who have gathered their teaching experience by other means, especially by a professional focus on working outside the mainstream classroom.
A willingness to work flexibly and to travel to student’s homes is necessary, as is an ability to be self-reflective and committed, with a passion for learning and knowledge and making it invigorating. We are committed to safe guarding best practice and thus you will need to have a suitable enhanced DBS check to work with children, or a willingness to get one.
